Lenovo announced that it will soon release a mobile device that will use both smartphone technology and the function of a laptop to transform the way people use computers, according to a recent press report.
Representatives from Lenovo, which is the fourth-largest PC maker, according to the Local Tech Wire article, told reporters that the mobile device "could replace the major function of computers." The new product, being called a "smartbook" by some, according to the report, will have the ability to search out internet connectivity through both WiFi and cellular networks.
Although he would not describe the unit in specifics, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing told reporters the release will contribute to the company's strategy to focus on the mobile web market.
"We launched a number of mobile Internet products to be more productive in the segment," Yuanqing told Reuters. "I'm confident we can grow our market share."
The company also recently announced that it will put a new tablet PC on the market, the article said.
Dell has also entered the smartphone market with its Mini 3 and also debuted a tablet PC at the beginning of the year, according to Local Tech Wire.
